If you want to evaluate a person's intelligence, just tell them a ‘sick’ joke and see the reaction. In fact, a new study has shown that intelligent people appreciate black humor more.
Research that was conducted by a team led by Ulrike Vilinger at the Medical University of Vienna included 156 people.
Respondents were asked to evaluate 12 comic books by famous German cartoonist Uli Stein with a humorous, but somewhat morbid messages.
One of them shows the morgue where medical examiner lifts the sheets from the body, and the woman says: ‘Yes, this is my husband.
By the way, which detergent did you use to have such a white sheets?’ Participants were tested verbal and nonverbal IQ and they answered questions about mood, aggression and education.
It turned out that black humor was most appreciated by people who scored high results in IQ test, who are educated and non-aggressive.
People who scored mediocre results in IQ test, and showed a tendency towards aggression and mood swings, were the least interested in this kind of humor.
